January '12
This page describes work accomplished on the new TMRC layout during the month of January 2012, as taken from the descriptions posted to the club mailing list.
January 4

This shows the proposed new benchwork construction method for the upper levels. It combines slotted angle with UnistrutTM channel. Apart from the use of clamps to join the wood and metal, there are some makeshift fasteners holding the parts together. We will get proper UnistrutTM parts in due course.
Thanks to our neighbors at the Electronics Research Society for use of machine tools and some hardware from the junk box. That metal-cutting bandsaw went through the steel channel in a very speedy manner!

January 7

Eliza did some more work on her TV truck.
For the first time in quite a few years, John P cut a new piece of plywood for the helix. This piece goes where the outer track branches off.
Bill has been putting together a chemical factory complex adjacent to F-Yard.

January 14

Yesterday was SRNCKED. Next SRNCKED will be April of this year.

Mike Stunes is back!
John P immediately put him to work on helix construction.
But what he really wanted to do was revive the "Gumstix"TM single-board computer that we purchased to operate our new reliable Wi-Fi linked camera car.
Here's the board with its camera and antennas (one being for Bluetooth, which we don't actually need).
This is the boot screen, delivered to the computer via RS-232, but that will change.
The expert at work.
Eliza continues to work on her TV truck. Nobody else is allowed to do it for her!
John M planted vegetation at the top of the Madlinger family's cliff-- something that's been lacking for several years.
TMRC's highway to the sky, section 14 of the helix. This is where the tracks to Sawyer and Tuckerton split, elevation 50.
The end is in sight. It seems high enough, but we've got another three turns to add. The plan features two curved diamond crossings.

January 18

Ms Douglas from the MIT Museum stopped in to return the equipment we lent last year (see 2-23-11). Mike signed a form to acknowledge receipt in good condition.
John P did something or other related to helix construction. Section 14 again.
Per Andy's suggestion, we have two new sets of CokeTM machine keys.
