October '11
This page describes work accomplished on the new TMRC layout during the month of October 2011, as taken from the descriptions posted to the club mailing list.
October 1

Eliza is adding a blinking red roof beacon to her TV broadcast truck. With actual electronics!
This is a mockup of a turnback loop to be built below the helix in the Middle Heights area. It is clear that there will have to be some interesting construction to make all this happen.
Andy's bridge over F-Yard is proceeding.

October 22

Eliza is making a model saxophone. She has a plan for who'll play it.
New member Absolom installed some support brackets and cut the material for mockup benchwork above the viaduct scene.
Here's the mockup.
The servo-driven turnout in the chemical plant area now has a processor to drive it instead of an analog circuit, the first use of our "standard small processor board". The empty socket is for programming and communication, but used in this way the board only needs to read the polarity of its power supply to decide what to send to the servo.
The other side of the processor board, showing most of the components.

October 27

For the upper levels, are gusset plates the way forward?
This is the proposed design for the area above the viaduct. Is it too obtrusive, or should we actually be trying to conceal the top of the cliff? Obviously lighting under the upper deck will be necessary.
Here is a panoramic view taken from a height.

October 29

This alternative reduces the width of the upper level, by removing the double track in the foreign road, and any extraneous area used for buildings etc.
Another view of the same, from a greater height.
Another view from more nearly horizontal.
This proposal uses minimal radii to try to reduce the amount of structure above the cliffs.
Same, seen from the side.
The proposed diamond and interchange, with a "foreign road" train approaching and a car on the interchange.
That other train will have to wait!
