February '11
This page describes work accomplished on the new TMRC layout during the month of February 2011, as taken from the descriptions posted to the club mailing list.
February 5

No pictures unfortunately, but the evening opened with visits by veteran members Pete Samson and George Mitchell.
Governor Stunes shows new member Eliza how we maintain locomotives.

And John M gives a lecture on how to operate F-Yard. It doesn't seem to have been a very onerous task for either of them.

And this is something to do with controlling tri-color LEDs with cosmic rays. We have wide-ranging interests here, but is this any way to run a railroad?
We cleaned the whiteboard with industrial solvents, and added some kind of circuit diagram concerning signals.

February 12

Mike has been working on a locomotive for some time; it's now close to finished.

Eliza cut some plywood for a scenery project in Berkmannville.
The previous attempt at recessing the windows on a Radical Flats building (see Jan 29) didn't seem to put them deep enough, so John P tried again. This is .040" deep, and looks more satisfying. Is it obvious that blue tape is involved?

February 16

Man, these drums are heavy! But if I stand around the corner, maybe the other guy will shift them all.

February 19

Eliza built a hillside in Berkmannville. Her style of painting is especially interesting--plain brown has always been good enough before.

John P made a new 2-headed dwarf signal to govern the exit from F-Yard. So far only the lower head lights up.

February 23

Tonight a TMRC locomotive and 5 cars left the clubroom for the adventure of a lifetime--they were taken away to be part of the MIT Museum's exhibit of "150 significant objects to celebrate MIT's 150th anniversary". We'll get them back in December. Ignore the drunken building in the background.
Here's the 2-headed dwarf signal again, now with both heads illuminated. The picture also shows another dwarf, and the high signal that Alex Keck made last summer.
