June '10
This page describes work accomplished on the new TMRC layout during the month of June 2010, as taken from the descriptions posted to the club mailing list.
June 5

Ties are down in the chemical plant area, and John P is attempting to making them look weathered and neglected, by painting them gray before staining with brown.

Bill made this steam generator shed for heating viscid* freight car contents at the bulk unloading facility.

Something needs to be done about that awful concrete.

* Word of the day.

Alex's latest project. He needed to make a bushing for the motor shaft, and did it at the Racing Car shop.

June 9

John M is installing a lawn next to the steel warehouse, where a picnic table for employee lunches will be placed.
A power splitting cable has been constructed to allow an RS-232 interface to be operated at the same time as an experimental board.

June 23

With the lawn now in place, picnic tables (and a trash can!) are appearing.
The N. B. Handy Company now has a concrete capstone and a gravel roof.

A closeup of the building.

Kingmill Enterprises based their model building products on real buildings; this one is in Lynchburg VA. The N. B. Handy company still exists, still in Lynchburg, though now in a more impressive location!

June 26

Tracklaying in the chemical planet area is proceeeding. This time John P tried spray-painting the ties gray before staining them brown, with the idea that this might leave the ties looking weathered and inconsistently colored. Also, the ballast is Woodland Scenics "Buff" colored with dilute "Ebony" stain, deliberately not mixed evenly, so as to give a variety of tone to the grains.
Another view of the new track. Since it's an industrial area that isn't heavily used, a few weeds seemed proper. All we need is rails!
Alex has been continuing with his secret project.
